VOICE OF CHILDREN MINISTRIES, INC.: WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

How it all started:

Voice of Children was founded in the late afternoon hours of June 12, 1996 by Rev. Fr. Chidi Ezennia Osondu (then a second year college student) . Voice of Children otherwise called VOC or VOICE is a not for profit organization (NGO) that serves children, youth and women in Southeastern Nigeria. (see full story on our face book) Majority of the persons we serve come from Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Imo and Ebonyi States of Nigeria. Presently we have 142 person under our care.

Thus far, the Ministry has had a fourfold purpose:

1. To house, care and support orphans, handicapped, neglected, sick and abandoned children in the southeastern part of Nigeria.

2. To aid the poor, less privileged and handicapped children and youths of the southeastern region of Nigeria in paying for basic food and medical needs, school tuition, books, room and board

3. To raise and supply money, and take care of specific children and young people with serious diseases or defects that cannot be taken care of by the Nigeria doctors due to lack of facilities and other hindrances. Funds are raised in order to fly these persons to the USA and to meet their needs in the United States for specialized surgical/re-constructive procedures at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, Georgia, USA.

4. To supply money and care for young girls who are pregnant out of wedlock so as to avoid any danger of abortion or the abandonment of innocent children. We also take care of their medical and maternity issues because most of these girls become abandoned.. We are in this because the issue of child support is a foreign concept to the Nigerian society; hence pregnant teenagers are abandoned to walk this road alone.

5. To support and help re-establish women who are abused or who are victims of domestic violence. This abuse could either be physical, sexual, emotional or otherwise.

Staffed with volunteers and nuns, the Ministry’s main expenditure, beside those listed above, is gasoline for transportation to distant villages. The 142 children, youths and women that are currently being helped by Voice of Children Ministries, Inc. remain in their parents care, rented orphanages or foster care. The Ministry travels to these villages where these persons are to supply them with tuition for the coming school term, and all necessary supplies for the coming months.

Today, VOICE feeds, clothes, educates and provides medical care for more than 142 orphans, handicapped children, youths, unwed mothers and abused women in Southeastern Nigeria. In addition, for very special cases, VOICE brings children to the United States for life saving re-constructive surgery to treat congenital birth defects, accidents and other sicknesses that otherwise could not be treated in Nigeria. These persons are brought to St. Francis Hospital Columbus-Georgia, USA where a good number of Doctors like Leeland Mcluskey, Vincent Namaan, Marc Goldman, Tidwell and others attend to them. We are grateful to St. Francis Hospital under the leadership of Rob Grainger for for being a blessing to Voice of Children.

Voice of Children Ministries, Inc. is a registered, non-profit, tax exempt 501 (c) (3) organization in the State of Michigan, USA.

We have seen lives touched and changed for good through the acts of our ministry and this is why we ask that you to consider ASSISTING US with donations to continue this touch of love. One of the children whose life was battered on the altar of neglect, and abandonment had this to say to our founder when he met with her on January 16, 2006: "Voice has given me a reason to look on life again as worth living; dignity has been restored to my disfigured life and those of other children."

May God continue to richly bless you and your family and thank you in advance for your support and generosity. Be blessed and may you continue to be a blessing to all you meet.

Please remember Voice of Children in your will. Would you also please consider taking a life insurance policy of $25 a month or more on Voice of Children?

Thanks and be assured of our prayers
